CHICAGO MODEL MASTERS BY-LAWS
PREAMBLE
The Chicago Model Masters has over decades grown into an eclectic mix of model
enthusiasts who support, share, laugh, critique, joke, and enjoy each other like
family. For many of us, Kickapoo Woods flying field has become our space to fly
and refresh; for some it’s like a home away from home.
As we have traversed the spectrum from control-line planes to complex turbine
powered aircraft, and from drones to UAVs, we cannot ignore the responsibility
that comes with that growth.
To that end, we, the Chicago Model Masters hereby document and incorporate
these by-laws to provide a framework for how we govern ourselves. These by-laws,
like ourselves, are not perfect, but serve as a foundation, which will evolve over
time to reflect changing conditions and landscapes.
Amidst the fun, we understand that certain dangers are inherent in this hobby. An
airplane crash inside the field can be an unfortunate part of this hobby. Crashes
happen. However, a crash outside the field (or flight box) is a failure, by the
member, AND by the club, if such a crash was foreseeable and we did nothing to
minimize its likelihood. This potential liability cannot be ignored as no amount of
money can make up for the loss of someone to an airplane accident. Ignoring these
protocols can threaten the safety of members, guests, surrounding residents and
their property, and potentially subjects the Club to liability…perhaps even loss of
the field.
Thus, it is incumbent on each us, as members of THE CHICAGO MODEL
MASTERS to understand and follow the by-laws and safety protocols to ensure
everyone’s safety…especially guests at the field, the surrounding communities,
residents, and their property.
So to all members, officers, and guests; to ensure longevity of the CHICAGO
MODEL MASTERS, please follow the rules and encourage other members to do
the same!
